INTERVIEW WITH ANDREW BECKWITH, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF WESTGOLD RESOURCES (WGR)
“WGR - More Bonanza Gold Intercepts”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/50645
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2008, 7:00 AM.
BRR Good afternoon, Andrew. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today.
WGR Thank you, Tom.
10
BRR Andrew, Westgold is continuing to deliver very encouraging results from its Rover 1 Copper-Gold prospect in the Northern Territory with the announcement on Friday, further Bonanza Gold Intercepts, can you tell us what the latest result showed?
15 WGR Yes. Firstly, the new results include a very good 32 meters, 21 grams gold including 13 meters and 48 plus a 6-mtere interval at 9.3 grams in the second hole. This second intercept is approximately 14 meters vertically above 32-meter intercept. This new very high-grade gold intercepts back up at our earlier string of outstanding results at Rover 1. Some of them include 66
20 meters or 11, 28 or 11, 23 at 33 grams, 15 at nearly 10, 11 at 11 grams, and so on. So, continuity of grade and agility of mineralization appears to be very robust and we expect further drilling will also expand on this important high-grade drilling.
25 BRR In your latest relation with quite a number of very broad copper, cobalt and bismuth intersections as well as high-iron grades. Can you explain how these other metals relate to the high-grade gold mineralization?
WGR Yes, certainly. The Rover 1 Prospect as we are shaping up, is a very large Iron Oxide Copper-Gold system. These Iron Oxide Copper-Gold systems are
30 very well known around Australia and in fact the world; and include a number of large mines here in Australia. Some of them include the Olympic Den and Prominent Hill in South Australia, Ernest Henry in Osborne and Queensland and then the Tennant Creek ore bodies. They are all quite different in nature, but they are all part of the same family of deposits. At Rover 1, the high-grade
35 gold mineralization appears to be very similar in nature to the very high-grade gold mines of Tennant Creek. However, the drillings also intersected some very broad lines of copper and related copper in business within a massive ironstone body. Some of the better copper zones include 91 meters, at nearly half a percent, 100 meters at 0.8% copper, 45 meters at nearly 1% copper,
40 100 meters at 0.6, and so on. These copper zones are more like the Queensland deposits of Ernest Henry and Osborne style. So, we are now starting to build a potentially bigger system again, so, for us the question is what are we testing; are we testing a fairly simple very high-grade gold deposit like Tennant Creek, which is very nice in itself indeed or are we
45 looking at a much bigger copper-cobalt business and gold system but very internal high-grade gold design? So, time will tell and anymore drilling will help us define what we have.
BRR Westgold has only been drilling at Rover 1 since March and has achieved some quite remarkable results to date. Where do you see the project heading over the next few months?
WGR Westgold has been very successful in defining a very exciting zone of high-
5 grade gold mineralization and perhaps even a much bigger copper-cobalt business system. Our program until the end of the years is to continue drilling around the clock, testing the overall size of the system. Initially, that focus will remain on defining the limits of the very high-grade gold mineralization. Currently, this gold zone is open in every direction virtually. The importance of
10 this high-grade gold zone cannot be understated; the high-grade nature provides enormous benefits for any future economic development. At the same time, this drilling will also provide us with attest of the entire ironstone bodies which will go a long way to helping us determine what the copper-cobalt business mineralization means. So, I think it is important to realize that
15 drilling to date, is probably only just 10% of the entire ironstone, so , we have plenty of upside in our future drilling.
BRR It certainly sounds like he is onto quite significant at Rover 1, assuming the drilling goes well for the rest of the year, what can investors expect to going in
20 2009?
WGR Our ambition and focus remain squarely on developing a highly-profitable mine. We can see that our strategy and early decision to target these IOCG systems within the Rover Project was the right choice. We are currently planning to scope out the dimensions of the gold and copper mineralization
25 with continued drilling as I said above. Once we have defined the overall size of the system, we will be looking to define the initial resource at Rover 1. I am not saying the more we drill, the larger the system appears to grow and the more difficult it is to say when we are complete at that first resource. However, I would expect it to be early 2009 rather than later. After that, I will
30 expect some scoping studies to be undertaken that will determine the potential economics of the project that beyond that is even harder to predict. However, it is certainly our intention that drilling might stop in 2009. The only thing that might stop us is the wet season, but that may not even deter us. Ultimately, it will be driven by results then our resource and then moving into
35 economic studies; and I think the main thing from most investors is, I would like to think, we will see a major re-rating of the company as more people come to understand of what we have and what we are about; and importantly, the significance of the Rover 1 discovery.
