DISCUSSION WITH MR. NEIL EVANS, MEDIA CHIEF AND POLITICAL ANALYST, CENTREBET INTERNATIONAL LIMITED (CIL)
“Weekend Tips”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/49439
FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 2008, 12:45 PM
BRR Hello and welcome to another fine afternoon of Boardroom Radio best bets and it is my great pleasure to be joined by Centrebet’s Neil Evans. Welcome,
10 Neil.
CIL Hello again, John.
BRR Obviously, as we discussed earlier you are very busy making markets on the Olympics but for those of us who enjoy proper sport, the rugby league is on
15 tonight at (inaudible) (00:17:00). We can have a bet on all of them. How are we going to make our fortune this weekend?
CIL Alright. We will kick it off with the NRL, of course. Big Friday tonight double header. We can pick it off. All roads lead down to Olympic Park for the first leg.
20
BRR Yup.
CIL The Roosters is a very big prize. I am short from 470 to 430, when I last checked.
25 BRR They are showing 440 in front of the screen here.
CIL Yes, 400. Okay As far as I am concerned, that could be any price. The Roosters will gather Storm.
BRR Yup.
30 CIL We will play it safe being the first leg. They should be around about the 122/121 mark.
BRR $1.22.
35 CIL $1.22, we will have them just to win.
BRR Okay.
CIL Bright and early.
40 BRR It does not sound like a lot to me, but anyway okay the Storm are locked in. What is next?
CIL It is not a lot but we will keep building.
BRR Yeah.
45 CIL Then we will go to the Penrith Panthers.
BRR Right-O. Hang on, just let me find that game here, Penrith Panthers. Okay, they are the ones I tip to playing good football. They got done by 74 points against Canberra. That is Penrith Panthers, is not it?
CIL But actually just before that, the Cowboys are at home.
BRR Yeah.
CIL To the Titans. The Titans got all sorts of injury problems. The Cowboys ran
5 about the 140ish mark, may be a fraction shorter.
BRR The Cowboys are at home to the Titans. Hang on. What time is that game playing?
CIL That would be probably Saturday night from memory.
10
BRR Okay.
CIL You might want to check. The market could well be off in that game.
BRR I think it is off this day marketing the game.
15 CIL There is a query with some injuries there with the home team.
BRR Right.
CIL But keeping that in regard, we are still going to back the Cowboys as our second league.
20
BRR Right but we do not like them to come back on the league.
CIL Well, away from the comeback. Well, that market is expected back on pretty soon.
25 BRR Right.
CILL ...but there is a bit of guessing going on with a few of the starters on that line-up but.
BRR What about the Broncos and St. George game, we are going to sail past that?
30 Broncos at home, $1.43, you are done?
CIL That is short enough from 1.52 but I am just a fraction wary of the Broncos. I am just a fraction wary against the Dragons. They do fire up against Brisbane for a lot of the history that we all know about so we will go around that one.
35 BRR Right.
CIL We will just question mark the Cowboys there, but they will go in and I am sure you will put them in. They should be around that 1.38/1.40 mark.
BRR Yup, yup.
40 CIL The third leg then would be the Panthers at home.
BRR Okay, then we have got the Cowboys. We are just going to take them. Sorry to get back to that. We are going to take them for the win, are we?
CIL Just for the win, yeah.
45
BRR Okay, now we have got the Panthers, Panthers at home.
CIL Yeah, Panthers half time/full time.
BRR $1.17 they are paying. Sorry, did not I just get trashed by 60 points there, $1.17?
CIL Waste a long time in football, John. I will tell you what, back home, they need to win to have any sniff and the dogs cannot get out of their own way at the
5 moment, we all know that so...
BRR Okay, so you are going to pay the Panthers half and full?
CIL Yup, half time, full time to give us a little bit more value.
10 BRR Yep.
CIL And then we could go with Manly.
BRR Ah, yes, (inaudible) (00:03:16) $1.20?
CIL Yeah, we are going to take them to win.
15
BRR Right, it does not sound like a very generous week this week. Manly to win this.
CIL We are getting there.
20 BRR Yeah.
CIL Look, I think Souths, I will run with them for a while because they are just about gone for the season but Manly got a hit back so Manly to win there is their four legs in the NRL.
25 BRR Yeah. That is the four legs though in the NRL. Okay, yep.
CIL Now, do we want to keep going in the one multi or do we want to give the AFL 7?
BRR, No, let us just keep going. Let us just say we could put it together all the way.
30 CIL All the way, we are going to get Melbourne, the Demons. We are going to put our faith in the bottom team.
BRR Yup.
CIL To win this one on a half time/full time option.
35
BRR Okay, this is against West Coast.
CIL This is against West Coast. They have been well back the Demons, from 2.05 to 1.74.
40 BRR They have come right in, have not they, yeah.
CILL They have come right in, some massive money on the deed and a lot of that is being fuelled by, of course, this time of the year they are tanking talk about which teams might lay down a little bit.
45 BRR Yeah, yeah, yeah.
CIL There are some queries on the West Coast line-up but this game I think is a little bit of a setup for Melbourne. So for a little bit more value, we are going to go half time/full time, the Demons.
BRR Is that at $2, I am probably looking at the wrong game, Tels 2.25, yeah?
CIL Yeah, that is very nice. $2.25 Melbourne half time/full time.
BRR Yeah.
5 CIL Into keep going the Brisbane lines at home.
BRR Into the Brisbane lines at home, yeah.
CIL Yeah, which should be right around the $2.12 mark.
10 BRR Yeah, yeah, Brisbane lines at home are currently playing Tels 12.
CIL Yeah, they are the outsider against the Western Bulldogs but the Bulldogs, of course, comfortably third. The lines on the lead Matthew are on the slide. They desperately need to win this one so I think there is great value there. The lines and for the final leg.
15
BRR Yup, you got Carlton Kangaroos, Richmond, Hawthorn, Fremantle, St. Kilda, what are you going to do there? Oh God, look at the odds, the Sydney deals are off.
CIL The biggest prize of Sydney had been a long time but I do not really want to
20 take that against the Storm in (inaudible) (00:05:14) long line-up at the moment.
BRR Yeah.
CIL In actual fact, we might sign off on that Brisbane game.
25
BRR Right, do you think that is going to be it and you do not want to put all of that into an Olympic sport. For those of us who, you know, then you would then have to be forced to watch some game. What would be your best bet if you have that one bet?
30 CIL Yeah, well look, all that comes in. We have it in the one Olympic option, Grant Hackett in the 1,500 meters.
BRR Grant Hackett in the 1,500 meters. It does not get any more Aussie than that, okay. Just let me go to swimming men’s.
35 CIL It should be around 1.85/1.90.
BRR Grant Hackett consistent at 1.85.
CIL Yup.
40 BRR We will put it all into Hackett.
CIL Yup, all into Hackett. Of course, that is in the final day of swimming. He is one of the better supported Australian swimmers. I think he will be making it three in a row so there is a swimming leg in.
45 BRR Right-O, okay we will lock that away. When we have got the proper market for the Cowboys, we will bang them in as well.
CILL That should be a fantastic price.
BRR Neil Evans, thank you very much for your input.
CIL My pleasure, John. There are also some Olympic markets going on and so it is ballistic at the moment. I think it is fascinating everyone and as you always say, it puts a whole new fascinating spin on trying to watch the Olympic Games.
5
BRR Absolutely. You can watch any event if you have got money on it, and Neil, just quickly, if people do want to have a bet to make the Olympics interesting, where do they go?
CIL Centrebet.com, John, is the place to go. There is a gold medal market going
10 on everything, round by round, match by match. It is out of control at the Olympics. There is a market there for just about everyone.
BRR Good idea, Neil, thanks very much, champion. Good luck. And we will speak to you next week.
15
CIL We will, John. Many, many thanks.
