INTERVIEW WITH ALEX BAJADA, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF EXCALIBUR MINING CORPORATION LIMITED (EXM)
“Further New Discoveries At Tennant Creek”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/49422
THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2008, 3:30 PM.
BRR Good afternoon and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, we are speaking with Mr. Alex Bajada, Managing Director of Excalibur Mining. Thanks for
10 joining us today, Alex.
EXM Thanks, Eddie.
BRR Alex, Excalibur today has released an announcement and one of the highlights being the results coming out of the Weabers Find. Did you want to
15 give us an update on this?
EXM Yes, thanks, Eddie. Weabers, obviously, we are quite excited about getting the results that we seem to be continually coming up with up there at Tennant Creek. Weabers Find is about 700 metres which is more or less northwest of Rising Sun, where we have had some continuous excellent results and
20 shallow results, which is really what has been very, very important. Now what we have announced there today, obviously, we are getting the flow of results of our drilling coming through there and we are putting out to the market as soon as we possibly can the results as they do come through after we have analysed it. So really the key is to look at really the depth and grade of what
25 we have found there and we are looking forward to get some further results around there in the future as well. In the meantime, obviously, we also had some results that came through for our initial testing there at M10 which also showed some rather interesting mineralisation. We have got a lot more to come through on that, so business as usual. We have an ongoing
30 assessment of all of the areas where we have been drilling, and obviously, we are working to release a resource estimate over the next couple of weeks which should be quite exciting, I think. The bottom line, of course, is that, as many would understand, is that we have done a hell of a lot of drilling. Now we are waiting for those results to come through. We will be working at these
35 continuously to try to get ourselves to a point where we just have a better understanding of what we actually have at Tennant Creek. So what we will find over the next month or so is that we will probably slow down the pace of our exploration work and put all of our resources purely into an analysis and an estimate of really what we have managed to achieve to date. After that, we
40 will work on our next programme on the basis of that information and then we will give the market an estimate of where our next programme will be concentrating on and what we expect to get out of that.
BRR Alex, I guess it is fair to say that the market is tough at the moment and in
45 particular the gold market. How is this affecting Excalibur and its mining?
EXM The gold index has been really bashed this week. It is something I have not seen in quite a while, but I think what the market seems to have not picked up on the fact the Australian dollar has taken a bashing as well. So I do not believe that the gold stock should have been knocked around anywhere as much as they have been given that the dollar has dropped from really being close to 98 cents to I think I saw that it might have been as low 86.5 or 87 today. So the issue really at the end of the day is what is the Aussie gold price. Now the international bullion had a bit of a recovery last night and I
5 noticed that the index seemed to be a little bit more positive in the resources area, particularly in gold today. We have suffered in share price due to that sort of sentiment, probably not as badly as some, but sentiment is something that is hard to predict or even to assess at times. What we have done really is just continue doing the work that we have always outlined and we have had a
10 very much clearly outlined plan of attack of how we are working our assets. We have not stopped doing that and we will just continue on with our programmes, and hopefully the low in that sector of the market will improve. But at the end of the day, you cannot work against the fact that market sentiment can drive the price of your stock downwards. We are just getting on
15 with it and not trying to stress that matter too much. The market itself really has been on a downward trend for some time really on the resources side, and in that light, we have had some ongoing discussions with a group of Hong Kong investors who had proposed a placement with us some time ago. We were approached to drop our price in the placement. The board refused
20 to entertain anything like that, but in the meantime, we have been approached by a very, very interesting UK-based resources fund who want to take a placement in our company. I have announced in the past that really I have been looking to have some substantial shareholders to be on our registry and I am certainly always looking to try to find a small fund or
25 resources fund to be there and then hopefully get a few more as well. So our negotiations are still somewhat market confidential for the moment. When we do have a result, then I will come back to the marketplace, but certainly the board is not interested in entertaining placements at the price level so we are trading it right now. We would certainly be looking at wanting a premium to
30 the trading price as it is now because of the fact that we have already shown to the market that we have some very, very good and continued set of results that really have not been quite properly valued in the marketplace, in our opinion.
35 BRR Alex, you touched on there the potential of this future placement. Is this something that Excalibur requires or is it something that they are looking at as could be a possibility?
EXM Thanks for that, Eddie. We are in, I suppose, a good position where we do not need to do a placement. It is not required for our operations at this point in
40 time. You are quite correct. The issue really is whether we want to have a particular group on our registry and we are certainly not going to do it at a ridiculous price because that would not be beneficial to the shareholders at all. So if we cannot get the price that we want, we certainly will not do the placement.
45
BRR Alex, I must say definitely some confident news coming out there. We thank you for your time today and look forward to speaking to you soon.
EXM Thanks, Eddie.
