INTERVIEW WITH JOHN LEWINS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF PLATINUM RESOURCES AUSTRALIA (PLA)
“Further Wide Zones Of Target Mineralisation”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/49319
MONDAY, AUGUST 11 2008, 01:00 PM.
BRR Good afternoon and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, we are speaking with Mr. John Lewins, managing director of Platinum Resources Australia.
10 Thanks for joining us today, John.
PLA Good afternoon.
BRR John, we see the announcement you’ve released today with some results coming out of the Kalplats project. Did you want to give our listeners some
15 update on the results and the implications of what is going to come out of this project?
PLA Yes, look, I’d be very happy to do that. On the contrary, Platinum Kalplats project is our largest project…currently in feasibility study on the project and got a fairly extensive drilling program underway there. We’ve just released the
20 results of some 82 holes that we’ve drilled in the project, covers five of the deposits, and within them are some extremely good results including Crux (inaudible) (00:00:48) 22 metres at 6.58 grams per tonne, 29 metres at 3.58 metres, 31 metres at 3.09, and 20 metres at 4.87 and similar sort of results in a number of the other deposits such as Sirius with 16 metres at 3.36 and 17
25 metres at 3.36 in another hole, in Vela, 17 metres at 3.88 and so on. So a lot of inflation coming out there. It’s probably about six weeks’ worth of results, results of going into the resource update on these deposits and that resource is ……or those new resources then will be going in to completing the bankable feasibility study on the Kalplats project. So as we see it’s very
30 positive results, reinforcing previous results, showing good, wide zones of mineralisation which we think should make for very attractive resource for the project.
BRR John, just briefly touch on other one of your main projects, which is the
35 Smokey Hills project. You’re currently starting the commissioning there. Did you want to just give our listeners an update on that project?
PLA Oh, I can certainly do that. Smokey Hills as you’ve said is another one of our projects. It’s our most advanced project. We started mining there in the open pit in January and we are about to commence mining with the first blast on
40 the underground in the next week or two. In terms of the processed plant, we are due to start commissioning that at the end of this month, at the end of August, and we’ve got about a six to eight weeks commissioning time during which we’ll hopefully bring the project up to full production which is some 60,000 tonnes a month producing 95 to 100,000 ounces of 4E PGM per
45 annum. The project at this stage is very much on budget and I think in the next financial year we’re looking at 50 to 60,000 ounces of 4E PGM to be produced. We have recently put in place. I think, something like 15% of production for the next five years is actually hedged on this so it’s hedged at around about $2,000 an ounce for the Platinum. So the project is looking very good and obviously we’re quite excited about going into production in our first platinum mine.
BRR Certainly some promising news coming out there. John, we really appreciate
5 you taking the time out today to inform our investors and we look forward to speaking to you soon.
PLA Yes. Well, I’m heading off to South Africa tomorrow and I’ll be up on site the following day to see how the projects are advancing and hope in the not too distant future we’ll have some more information about our projects and
10 information on first production.
BRR Thanks for that, John. That was John Lewins, managing director of Platinum Resources Australia. And if you have any questions about this broadcast or any other broadcast please feel free to contact us on brr@brr.com.au. I’m
15 Eddie (inaudible) (00:03:48) and thank you for listening to Boardroom Radio.
