DISCUSSION WITH NEIL EVANS, MEDIA CHIEF AND POLITICAL ANALYST OF CENTREBET INTERNATIONAL LIMITED (CIL)
“Weekend Tips”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/49287
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 2008, 4:20 PM.
BRR Good afternoon and welcome to Boardroom Radio Best Bets after a two-week absence, great pleasure. Welcome back, Neil Evans from Centrebet. Neil, welcome back.
CIL Thank you very much, John, great to be back and we are back at a very, very busy time.
BRR Fantastic. Now, how are we going to make our fortune this weekend?
CIL We will kick it off with the NRL, of course, and some pivotal games. Some very tough games where the betting has been both ways in the match money for the outsiders. Of course, a lot of the interest will be on the Sea Eagles doing battle with the Storm. This is a tough one. I think Melbourne can win the game, but Manly might push them very close. We are going to go down and start to try and build our fortune with the Sharks.
BRR Right. So, St. George and Wests Tigers, we are going to leave that as well?
CIL We will leave that as well, yes. I think there is another game where Wests Tigers are probably the value, but St. George at home, it could go either way. So we are going to skip down. The Warriors at home with the Broncos, there is money both ways there. The Warriors could cause an upset, again a tricky one. Let us start it with the Sharks.
BRR Right, so there are no bets for Friday night football. I find it very hard to watch when we do not have money on it.
CIL If there is one great forte, it is patience.
BRR Yes, okay. So Sharks play the Bunnies.
CIL Sharks and the Bunnies. We will not give the stocks. We will play it safe and take the Sharks at $1.33 to win.
BRR Okay, that is locked in, yes.
CIL Okay, we move on down. We will bypass the Bulldogs and North Queensland.
BRR She sets the battle of…
CIL Yes. That is a game where somebody wins, the two lose. If you are going to put it that way because that is a testament to going around in circles. We will go down to the Raiders. Despite all the Todd Carney dramas, I think at home, they can win this one against the Panthers. Look, we will play it safe and just take $1.57.
BRR $1.57, that is in. Panthers has been playing some reasonable footing but you do not think this it is worth the pot?
CIL Raiders are worth plenty of points at home. Penrith, look, they will be in the contest for a while, but Canberra, now they are going to keep winning to try and get into the eighth. Penrith, they are in a similar boat. I cannot get around the Raiders at home, so we are going Sharks into the Raiders.
BRR Sharks into the Raiders. We have the Roosters and the Eels.
CIL Yes, we will take the Roosters here at the half-time, full-time option.
BRR Okay, so it is actually a little tough to work this half-time.
CIL $1.38.
BRR $1.38. Half normal. Okay, here we go. We have got $1.38 for the Roosters over Parramatta to lead a half-time and then go on and win the game?
CIL Yes.
BRR Then we have the Titans and the Knights.
CIL Yes, we will probably go around that one as well, but there is very good money for the Knights. They are shortening all the time now into $1.48 away from home.
BRR They are just in the 8, are they not?
CIL Yes, and they are playing great football too. One of the best and most attractive sights to watch at the moment, but just a little wary up against the desperate Titans, although I think the Newcastle will get home, but we will keep that component of the NRL there with the Sharks into the Raiders and into the Roosters half-time, full-time.
BRR Okay. So we have got three bets there. Where do we go from here?
CIL We are going to go to the AFL.
BRR Okay, we are going to the AFL.
CIL Yes. Again, a lot of games are tricky. We are going down to the Swans.
BRR Right, what are we going to do with them?
CIL We are just going to take them at the half-time, full-time again.
BRR Over Fremantle?
CIL Over Fremantle, yes. They are obviously a little desperate, the Swans. They are (inaudible) (0:03:13) in flesh.
BRR All of Sydney is desperate for them to beat Geelong good.
CIL Okay, so Sydney is $1.73, half-time, full-time double.
BRR Yes, we will take that. That is in. That is locked in. We will take that. So that is four legs. I will (inaudible) (0:03:29) around actually. We might even just leave it at that.
CIL Well, I am a bit wary about this AFL round. I think that the outsiders are being backed, and there are several games that could go either way. I mean, tipping them obviously, Geelong are going to beat Melbourne but there is no value there. Hawthorn is short, counting $1.26. There has been money for Port Adelaide into the big price. So there are plenty of favourites outside of Geelong and Hawthorn that could be in trouble. We are hoping Sydney is not one of them. So we will leave the Swans there as the fourth and final anchor of that.
BRR So we are going to wrap that up, four legs and the pay is $4.98 at that.
CIL $4.98. I will be very confident that can get us home. Now, also if we want to go to the Olympic Games, of course, starting and obviously we have taken a lot of money on this, particular the medals. Most panellists are telling us Australia are going to fall short of what they did in Athens four years ago.
BRR Yes, so we are putting (inaudible) (0:04:28) just a separate bench until we actually find the Olympic Games interesting.
CIL Yes. You can put it that way, but we will keep the football aside. We have got the four legs there, the league and the AFL and we want to go to the women's swimming because most of our gold medal tally will come from the pool with the women in particular. We are going to the 400- x 100-metre freestyle relay where Australia is the $1.75 favourite.
BRR Yes. Swimming, women's. Okay.
CIL Women's, freestyle, 400 x 100 gold medal.
BRR This the Trickett versus Hoff without more depth, we are going to get back into the freestyle.
CIL Yes. We have got swimming, women's freestyle.
BRR Geez, complex.
CIL Yes, there is a lot of market.
BRR 400 x 200, 800.
CIL It should be 400 x 100.
BRR Right, I will find that. What are we betting there?
CIL $1.75, Australia.
BRR $1.75, Australia. The favourites are the first one that you get on.
CIL Yes, yes, we will put that in definitely. Then we go down to… It should be all there on the one run. You go down to 200-metre freestyle.
BRR 200-metre freestyle, gold medal winner.
CIL Yes. The girl on top, Katie Hoff from the USA, Katherine Hoff. She has a pretty good value at $2.25.
BRR We got a backer against that Aussie?
CIL Well, if you look in that market, you are going to get to Bronte Barratt at $19, so I do not think Australia will be winning gold in the 200-metre freestyle.
BRR Bronte, sorry, darling.
CIL We have got to borrow some green back here.
BRR (inaudible) (0:06:02) on Australia but the bet is on.
CIL Yes. Secondly, Katherine Hoff USA, $2.25 200 Freestyle. Now, we get back to loyalties with Lisbeth Trickett in the 100 Free.
BRR Okay, Libby, good girl $1.42. She is paying.
CIL She slipped, she was 133. There is a bit of money around Cate Campbell, the Brisbane school girl. I think she will cause the upset. I think Libby Trickett will win it. That will be our three-leg multi -
BRR Playing $5.59.
CIL I am pretty happy with that $5.59 Australia into Katherine Hoff into Lisbeth Trickett and I think we have got three gold metals in a nice collate.
BRR Fantastic, okay, we will put that on and we will see how we go and that I think might make the Olympics watchable.
CIL Well, we will look up to you. There is a lot of money coming in. It should be on the medals and we are betting on every single gold medal event, so if that does not do you (inaudible) (0:06.58), what will?
BRR Okay and when you find yourself up at 2 o'clock in the morning watching the replays of the archery or something and you know you have got a $100 on each way on someone from Norway.
CIL This is going to do wonders for those small events that only come along like the archery, and like the synchronized swimming, women's judo and all that sort of stuff, little bit of the hard-earned on everything that involved (inaudible) (0:07.20).
BRR Men's table tennis, the outright winner will be fantastic. Neil Evans from Centrebet. Thank you very much for your great advice and good to have you back on the show.
CIL Great to be back John and there is plenty on, football is gearing up to go to the Olympics and all sorts of market. Something there for everyone so -
BRR Looking forward to talking again in Boardroom Radio and give us your website again Neil.
CIL Centrebet.com, just follow all index down the left-hand side, Centrebet.com, the place to go for a price for everyone.
BRR Good on you Neil. Thank you.
CIL Thanks John. No worries.
