INTERVIEW WITH LEN WALKER, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF COUGAR ENERGY LIMITED (CXY)
“Cougar Energy Gains JORC Compliant Resource”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48928
MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2008, 1:00 PM.
BRR Good day and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, we are joined by the Managing Director of Cougar Energy, Dr. Len Walker. Len, thanks for your
10 time.
CXY Good to talk to you again, Cameron.
BRR Len, on Friday, you put out an ASX announcement indicating a few things, not least of which you have now got a JORC compliant coal resource of at
15 least 73 million tonnes. That is obviously good news for the Company and the shareholders.
CXY Yes, Cameron. We have always known from the geology that we have been doing that we have a resource of the size that we are looking for for our power station project, but it is another matter to have it quantified in terms of
20 the JORC code which is necessary generally speaking as far as financing is concerned. The JORC resource took a while to confirm because we discovered earlier on that we actually had two coal seams that were at the depths that were suitable for Underground Coal Gasification and this required some additional deepening of holes and a review of the geological work. But
25 we have come up with a minimum of 73 million tonnes and we are confident that we can expand that in the future.
BRR Len, the drilling will continue at the tenement?
CXY Yes. We have a rig organized to start again in a couple of weeks’ time. It has
30 got a number of purposes, not the least of which is expanding the JORC resource, but probably more importantly, there is a number of (inaudible) (0:01:20) tests that we need to undertake to give us design parameters for the UCG test burn and that will be undertaken over the next two to three months in preparation for installing our first three production wells later this
35 year.
BRR Len, with this JORC compliant resource and also the drilling, you have beefed up the office in Brisbane.
CXY Yes. We opened an office a couple of weeks ago. We have installed a project
40 manager in it together with our existing staff, made some indications that we are going to be going flight out not just to undertake the pilot at the end of this year or early next year but also continue the development through to the first stage of construction of the first stage of our power project which would be initially something like 200 megawatts. Associated with that is the funding
45 requirement, and with our financial partner Direct Invest, we are working towards putting together a two-stage funding package over the next 18 months in order to fund the first stage of the project. So we are extremely enthusiastic about progressing rapidly towards the development of the project.
BRR Len, thank you very much for your time and the update at Cougar Energy. If our listeners would like to find out some more information from Cougar, what is the best way they can do that?
5 CXY They can contact me through inquiries@cougarenergy.com.au and the office phone number is shown on the announcement. I might also add we are currently upgrading our website. That should be done in the next week or two which will give them an opportunity to get additional information about our activities.
10
BRR I should point out that listeners are able to ask a question through the webcast which we will only send to Len for answering at a later stage. Len Walker, the Managing Director of Cougar Energy, speaking to us on Boardroom Radio, thanks for your time.
15 CXY Thanks a lot, Cameron.
