INTERVIEW WITH DAVID CROOK, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF PIONEER NICKEL LIMITED (PIO)
“Promising Drill Results From Exploration Portfolio”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48904
MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2008, 10:20 AM.
BRR Welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, I am joined by the Managing Director of Pioneer Nickel, Mr. David Crook. David, thanks for joining us today.
10 PIO Good day, James. How are you?
BRR Yes, very well. Thank you. It has been a busy quarter for Pioneer and there has been a significant amount of exploration carried out at the Tregurtha prospect. Can I get you to talk us through the results of this drilling program
15 and let us know what is the significance of these results and what is the work ongoing at this project?
PIO Last parts of RAB drilling had started to regularly hit mineralisation above 1 gram per tonne there, half a dozen holes in the last program. We had better than 1 gram per tonne. The best one was 30 metres at 2 grams. These had
20 formed within a cluster that is now about 450 metres long and they are still open to the south. So it bodes well for something really interesting at Tregurtha and that is one of four prospects that we have identified there. So that looks pretty exciting to me.
25 BRR One of the other points that you highlight in the quarterly is the granting of the key tenement at Mt. Thirsty. Now, David, can you give listeners a bit of a background on the Mt. Thirsty project and detail the plans that Pioneer has at this project?
PIO Okay. Our Mt. Thirsty South tenement is adjacent to the Mt. Thirsty nickel-
30 cobalt laterite deposit held by some of our competitors. Now, Mt. Thirsty is quite interesting in that it has got about three times the cobalt level of other WA nickel laterites, maybe except (inaudible) (0:01:26) have had sensational cobalt values. Cobalt, however, has jumped from about $12 a pound to $44 a pound currently and so it is a very attractive commodity to explore for. The
35 project forms an ultramafic stratigraphy and we flew detailed aeromagnetic there a while ago and it is very evident that the ultramafics are continuous between the other Mt. Thirsty, now Mt. Thirsty South. It is also noteworthy that 50% of the other Mt. Thirsty sold during the month for $8 million, so I see there are some real value accretion potentially for Pioneer.
40
BRR Can you give listeners, shareholders, and potential investors some information as to where you intend to focus the continued exploration efforts in the quarter ahead?
PIO Well, for this coming quarter, Mt. Thirsty and Tregurtha will certainly be the
45 focus. We will be RAB drilling both of those, but we also plan on putting a few holes at Leo Dam where we have that pretty interesting nickel sulphide that showed some interest in the quarterly report. So Mt. Thirsty and Tregurtha are the focus, but there also will be some work at Leo Dam.
BRR Just finally, David, I will just draw listeners’ attention to the fact that some of the other activity that you carried out throughout the quarter with your Ravensthorpe Manganese project, successful placement of course, and also the drilling campaign at your Lignum Dam project. Details of these
5 announcements are also available through the Boardroom Radio links, which you have included in this quarterly.
PIO Any of the listeners that will be at Diggers & Dealers, we will have a booth here.
10 BRR All right, David. Well, thanks again for taking us through the latest details of activity at Pioneer Nickel. We will be out at Diggers & Dealers and following all the action out there and we look forward to following the progress of Pioneer in the quarter ahead.
PIO Thanks very much.
