INTERVIEW WITH ALEX BAJADA, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF EXCALIBUR MINING CORPORATION LIMITED (EXM)
“Extensive Drilling Leads to Encouraging Results”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48891
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, 2008, 3:45 PM.
BRR Good afternoon and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, we are speaking with Mr. Alex Bajada, Managing Director of Excalibur Mining Corporation.
10 Thanks for joining us today, Alex.
EXM Thanks, Eddie.
BRR Alex, we see in the quarterly report today released by Excalibur that the Company has been fairly strong in its drilling activity over the quarter. What
15 can you tell us the results have been and what has come out of this quarter?
EXM It has been a very, very active quarter. There is no doubt about that. At times, we have had three rigs working up there at Tennant Creek, and quite frankly, a lot of listeners would appreciate that getting access to good drilling companies to come and work your sites is particularly difficult. We have been
20 very fortunate, I guess, but being in Tennant Creek, you actually have a lot of infrastructure and it is actually quite attractive to actually get people working in that particular area because accommodation and transportation, everything else is readily there, and we actually are only about probably 10 to 12 kilometres out of the town. So for a small exploration company, I suppose our
25 location is particularly ideal. What we have probably had a degree of frustration in terms of getting the flow of results that we would have liked to have had, we now have changed the laboratories that we are using and we are expecting to get a far bit of flow of information from our drilling successes, if you like. We have now really, not only through the quarter but as a
30 subsequent position, we have probably just about completed our planned drilling program for the moment because we had planned to do 15,000 metres of drilling, we have probably now completed close to 17,000. We have gotten down extra drilling on top of what we had planned. The Company is really now into a period of evaluation which is very, very important, to now sit
35 back and pull in all the results and carry out some resource estimates and upgrades, and indeed, our next set of drilling sort of targets will be based on what we have actually managed to assess out of this current program. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of what we have achieved has been the relatively high incidence of very high grades of gold at shallow dips, and I
40 am very, very happy with the results that we have achieved to date. I also noticed that another company close to us, Emmerson, has also come in with some very high grades at shallow dips. I think it all goes to show that despite the fact that Tennant Creek was really perhaps one of the highest, if you like, highest grade production areas in Australia 20 or 30 years ago, the program
45 that we are carrying out, which other companies are doing out there, is basically showing that there is a hell of a lot more gold still there. The fact that it is a shallow dip makes it obviously very compelling for investors because they all know that the cost of open cut mining are much, much less than actually going too deep. So what we are really looking at right now is the evaluation of a number of areas there where we could really make some interesting resource evaluations, etc.
The other aspect of our program obviously is our drilling down the Juno mine
5 and drilling down to the M10 level. A lot of those results are not back yet, but I am very, very confident that we are going to get some very interesting results out of that particular part of the program.
The other area of excitement, really I suppose, is when we released some of
10 our investigations into the copper levels that we have in some of our holes and the grades of copper are very, very exciting.
So at the end of the day, it has been a very, very interesting quarter. We have done a lot of the work. Now, from here on in, it is evaluation time and we will
15 keep the market fully apprised as we come through with the information, but the market needs to understand and the shareholders need to understand that when you are actually putting together these upgrades of resources and really working through to get the true value and meaning of the results, it is not an overnight job. There is a lot of technical work that is involved, and any
20 of the work that we do, we get checked over independently and make sure that before we come out and make any statements that we are very, very sure of our ground when we are saying that we have a particular resource there. So it is going to take a bit of time and a lot of work, but that is the program that we have in store now over the next month or two, and obviously,
25 we will keep the market informed as we go.
BRR It definitely sounds like some busy times at Excalibur Mining there, Alex, but in same, that is also very encouraging. Thank you very much for your time today and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
30 EXM Thanks very much, Eddie.
