INTERVIEW WITH DR. RICK VALENTA, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF BONDI MINING LIMITED (BOM)
“Positive Quarterly Results Lead By Murphy Project”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48874
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, 2008, 11:40 AM.
BRR Good morning and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today we are speaking with Mr. Rick Valenta, Managing Director of Bondi Mining. Rick, thanks for
10 joining us today.
BOM No. Thank you.
BRR Rick, you presented a lot of positive results in your latest quarterly but you seem to be most excited by the results from the Murphy project in the
15 northern territory. Can you tell us why?
BOM Well, we got into the Murphy project because we felt it had all the right geological ingredients to host a world-class unconformity uranium province with deposits of the style of Jabiluka or Westmoreland deposit just across the border in Queensland. Both of which really are world-class uranium deposits.
20 And we like the Murphy project area even though the shallow cover over the area meant that there had not been a lot of exploration on the property to date. And I am happy to say that the results of Murphy to date are extremely encouraging and that we have now gone from that early stage play that we felt had uranium potential to producing some results that really validate that
25 model and show that in addition, that the exploration approach we are using is detecting mineralisation undercover. So, in other words, we know now that unconformity-style mineralization and alteration does exist in the area under shallow cover. And we also have a good target for follow-up and drilling and a lot more confidence that we have a method in the track etch screening that
30 we have carried out today that we can use to explore a much broader area and it is worth remembering that so far we have really only explored about 150 square kilometres out of the 9,000 or more that are in the tenement. So, we are very, very encouraged by the results we have got today with our exploration on the Murphy Project.
35
BRR Rick, phosphate is generating a lot of interest these days. And you mentioned in your quarterly report that the Murphy area may have some phosphate potential. Can you tell us about it?
BOM Of course. The Murphy tenement package covers a huge area as I already
40 mentioned. And it turns out that a significant part of that area has the same sequence of rocks that is known to host the large Georgina Basin phosphate deposits that are the subject of a lot of excitement right now because of the recent increase in the phosphate price. So, really, with that in mind, Bondi Mining has done some preliminary work to look into the phosphate potential
45 of the Murphy project. It has been very encouraging so far and that it looks like we have the right part of the sequence over a very large private area, again, under shallow cover. And not only that, the government compilations show that there are strong indications of phosphate very near to Bondi's tenements even though there has been little or no work inside the Murphy tenements themselves. So, we are now actually going back over some of our recent drilling to check more closely for phosphate indications. And we are also looking at how to advance this facet of the Murphy project, if you like, whether to do it ourselves or - right now, actually, we are considering
5 partnering up with some groups who are focused on phosphate exploration.
BRR Rick, and just lastly, what is next for the Murphy project?
BOM Well, now that we are confident that our approach is working, what we are going to do is carry out a much more ambitious track etch sampling program
10 covering a larger area of the right prospective structures and rock sequence. I think I already mentioned that we have really explored so far an extremely small area of the whole tenement. And this work has the potential to turn up a number of other targets that could be even better than the UC19 target area where we have a 10-kilometer long zone of anomalous uranium and the right
15 sort of alteration to host an unconformity uranium deposit. So, we are just finishing up our current RAB drilling program which is testing some more targets but also carrying out infield drilling on UC19. And we expect to be announcing further results from that later this month. And we are also finalizing arrangements to come back in with the second phase of deeper
20 reverse circulation drilling at UC19 to test the areas where we appear to have intersected the alteration halo of an unconformity-style mineralized system. So, we are hoping to be able to start that follow-up drill program in September. So, really, we are going to continue to be extremely active in the Murphy area for the foreseeable future.
25
BRR Certainly, some exciting times ahead then for the Murphy project and Bondi Mining. I would just like to thank you for your time today, Rick, and we look forward to speaking to you soon.
BOM Thank you very much.
