INTERVIEW WITH TREVOR MATTHEWS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF MURCHISON METALS LIMITED (MMX)
“OPR Selection Adds Value to Strategic Position of Murchison”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48763
TUESDAY, JULY 29 2008, 5:00 PM.
BRR Good afternoon and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today we are speaking with Mr. Trevor Matthews, managing director of Murchison Metals. Thank you
10 for joining us today, Trevor.
MMX Thank you, Eddie.
BRR Trevor, today you’ve announced a very significant win for Murchison Metals. Would you like to just give our listeners the details of this opportunity?
15 MMX Yes, Eddie. The announcement today was that our joint venture company with Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd Oakajee Port & Rail was successful in being selected by the state government as the preferred developer of the Oakajee Port. It has been a process that we started probably three and a half years ago in working on the development of infrastructure in the Midwest
20 region and over the last twelve months since the formation of our joint venture that’s been something that the responsibility for which is passed to the infrastructure joint venture company Oakajee Port & Rail. So, you know, it’s a culmination of a lot of work and there’s still further work to go on in terms of completing an agreement with the state government and then proceeding to
25 complete the environmental and engineering aspects of the project and other approvals. But it’s a significant step forward and it’s very positive of Murchison Metals in that we also have our mining joint venture with Mitsubishi called Crosslands and the development of infrastructure is the key component of developing that project without the development of this heavy
30 haul rail system and * not only Crosslands but all the other iron ore projects and other planned projects in the region would be affected or delayed. You know, we’re very happy with the fact that Oakajee Port & Rail has put forth a very technically confident, strong commercial and financial bid and also we felt to lead a good social benefit package as well for the… not only for the
35 Midwest region but also for the state. Ultimately, we’re, you know, very, very happy from the point of view of Oakajee’s Port & Rail success and being announced as the preferred proponent by the state government today and also looking forward to progressing with the development of the infrastructure and the expansion of our iron ore project in the Midwest region.
