INTERVIEW WITH MARK BASSO-BRUSA, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF EAST ENERGY RESOURCES LIMITED (EER)
“Results from Phase 1 Drilling Expected Soon”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48735
TUESDAY, JULY 29, 2008, 11:30 AM.
BRR Hello and welcome to Boardroom Radio. Today, we’re joined by Mark Basso, the Managing Director of East Energy Resources. Mark, thanks for joining us.
10 EER No problem, Cameron.
BRR Mark, it’s your first time on Boardroom Radio. Can you give us a description of your core business please at East Energy and how you came to be at the business?
15 EER East Energy is primarily involved in coal exploration activity, having two tenements in Queensland, one in the Adavale Basin and one at Norwich Park. At this stage, we’re sort of focusing on EPC 1149, which is in the Blackall area, where we’ve done our first stage of drilling exploration for coal, and it’s doing quite good, so far.
20
BRR Thanks, Mark. And how did you end up in the business?
EER We got involved as one of the major investors when the company was listed late December last year, and we came in as one of the major investors and took a fairly major investment in the Company, approximately about a third
25 owner, and having sort of run a number of private companies myself firstly, they asked me if I could actually become the Managing Director of East Energy, and that’s sort of where it started.
BRR Thanks, Mark. Mark, you made a few positive announcements to the market
30 recently, and today you made an announcement that your coal seam structures confirmed your first-up drilling at Blackall Coal Project in Queensland?
EER Yes, it’s correct. As per the announcement, we finished the 35 holes. We’ve done a fairly extensive mileage of drilling, and we’ve sort of targeted a fair
35 area. I think the potential is there to certainly extend on that and really we’ve got some primary data coming from the testing on the chip drilling, but really, we wanted to confirm that by taking core samples now and sending that to the ALS laboratory at Emerald and getting back all the stats on the coal itself and just continue with the drilling and just really extending the scope of the
40 areas that we’re looking in.
BRR Mark, how big is the area you’ve gotten, and what do you think you’ve got there?
EER Well, at this stage, I mean, we’ve got, I think it’s just under 900 kilometres
45 square of total area in the tenement. We’re only working in about 13 x 5 kilometres at the moment, so it’s a fairly small part of it. But we’ve kept the drilling sort of one (inaudible) (0:02:11) to 500 metres, and we’re going to probably extend that further. Really this stage, it’s really unknown. I mean, we’ve had pretty good luck so far with each drill hole and we’ll just continue to keep drilling and extending it out until basically the seams are either too deep. We’re not targeting really deep seams, we’re sort of restricting it to the maybe other seams below the ones that we’ve encountered. We thought we’d sort of limit around 100 metres at this stage, and we could probably go back later
5 and find deeper seams again, but that’s what we’re doing at the moment.
BRR And the announcement points out you’re going to move into Stage 2 of your drilling?
EER Stage 2, yes. Stage 2 is where we’ll increase the number of rigs on site, and
10 we’ll combine that with more RAB which will extend out the distance, but more importantly, we’ll now start to go back over the holes where we’ve got the chip samples and we’ll now actually, because the logging has been done, we’ll be able to focus exactly what depth we’ve got to go to for each seam, and we’ll pull out a definite core sample. We will put that in trays and then that
15 will go off to the labs which will (inaudible) (0:03:12) record results as far as the quality of the coal goes.
BRR When would you have to get your first lot of results back?
EER First of all, we’ve seen a fairly good turnaround. I’d say probably four to six
20 weeks, so, indeed, we should get some results back on the actual core samples and we can then compare them with the chip sample results that have been tested, and then we can obviously then announce the sort of qualities and the promise of the coal that’s on the site.
25 BRR You have got a lot ahead of you.
EER Excellent, yes.
BRR Mark, thanks for your time and the update on East Energy Resources. We appreciate it.
30 EER Yes, thanks very much.
BRR We look forward to catching up with you once you get some results back.
EER All right. Thanks very much, Cameron. Thanks for your time.
35 BRR It should be pointed out that if listeners would like to ask Mark a question through the web cast, they’re able to put that question into us and we’ll forward it onto Mark for any answers at a later stage.
