INTERVIEW WITH STEPHEN BIGGINS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SOUTHERN GOLD LIMITED (SAU)
“Company Doubles its Tenement Holdings”
http://www.brr.com.au/event/48161
THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2008, 12:30 PM.
BRR Today Boardroom Radio welcomes back Mr. Stephen Biggins, the Managing Director of Southern Gold. Stephen, thanks for your time.
10 SAU Good morning, Cameron.
BRR Stephen, some more good news flying out of Southern Gold with substantial gold intersections achieved at your tenement in Cambodia. Could you please talk to us about this?
15 SAU Sure. We are pretty excited about the robust exploration news that was delivered from our Cambodian exploration projects. We have now been in Cambodia for about two-and-a-half years and really the first substantial result has been out today, 32 metres at 2.74 grams per tonne of gold in the trenching intersection on our Kratie North project. This includes some high-
20 grade intersections of 4 metres at 16 grams per tonne.
BRR Stephen, what is the latest news with your exploration licenses and your tenement basins in Cambodia, please?
SAU Southern Gold, on the back of these pretty exciting exploration results, has
25 increased its investment in Cambodia. In addition to the three granted exploration licenses we have in joint venture, we own 100% that the Japanese government JOGMEC are farming into by spending $4.5 million over the next three years, we have recently been granted four additional ELs covering over 1000 square kilometres. On the back of the recent exploration
30 news, we bought out our joint venture partners and we now own four new granted exploration licenses 100%.
BRR Stephen, these days, investors are hearing more and more about Cambodia as a place for investment. What is the investment environment like there?
35 SAU The stabilizing political and economic situation in Cambodia is starting to flow into increased investment interest in Cambodia. Pretty solid GDP numbers over the last three or four years, ranging from about 80% to 90%, starting to increase investor interest. As a company, we are getting very good results from our exploration. We are increasing our interest in our (inaudible)
40 (0:02:04) holding in Cambodia as a result and we are also starting to see the investment environment being appreciated globally in Cambodia.
BRR Stephen, there is a lot of follow-up work to continue on this tenement. What are your immediate steps for the drilling?
45 SAU We have more trenching work going on on other prospect areas and we are waiting on some additional results as well as some more trenching to do on some of the tenements. On the back of that, we look to be leading into a substantial assay program on (inaudible) (0:02:35) when the dry seasons starts in November or December this year. In addition, we have just received the data sets from probably one of the largest airborne geophysical surveys in Cambodia that we completed with the joint venture partners a couple of months of ago and that is starting to give us a real insight into the controls of mineralisation and why mineralisation is where it is. That is really going to
5 lead into the much better targeting at our exploration.
BRR Stephen, how many men have you got on the ground over there and what would be your requirements going forward?
SAU Southern Gold has an established office and exploration team in Phnom
10 Penh in Cambodia ran by a new general manager who has hit the ground running, extending our networks and relationships in Cambodia. The Cambodian exploration team is made up of Aussie ex-pat geologists overseas and local Cambodian geos. In addition to that, we have got obviously administrative support and a much larger field team when we are
15 active in the fields.
BRR Stephen, thank you very much for your time today and giving us an update on Southern Gold’s Cambodian exploration activities. We appreciate it. If investors would like to get some more information on Southern Gold’s
20 activities, is there a website they can go to?
SAU Yes. Thanks, Cameron. They can go to the Southern Gold website, southerngold.com.au.
BRR Or listeners should be reminded that they are able to ask questions through
25 the web cast which we will only send to Stephen for answering at a later date. Stephen, thanks for your time and we look forward to catching up again.
SAU Thanks for your interest, Cameron.
