0.4% 3 monthly fall into September
Index of Services (2003 =100) percentage growth
Services output fell by 0.4 per cent in the quarter to September compared with the quarter to June and follows a fall of 0.3 per cent in the three months to August. This is the largest three months on previous three months fall since the series began in June 1995.
• Distribution output fell by 2.4 per cent in the quarter to September. This is the largest three months on previous three months fall since the series began in June 1995. In the current quarter the most significant decreases were in motor trades and wholesale.
• Hotels and restaurants output rose by 0.2 per cent in the quarter to September. The most significant increases were in restaurants and public houses and bars.
• Transport, storage and communication output decreased by 0.2 per cent in the quarter to September. The most significant decrease was in land transport.
• Business services and finance output fell by 0.4 per cent in the quarter to September. This is the largest three months on three months fall since August 2002 when there was a fall of 0.6 per cent. In the current quarter the most significant decrease was in other business services.
• Government and other services output rose by 0.5 per cent in the quarter to September. The most significant increase was in health and social work; the next most significant increase was in education.
Services output between August and September fell by 0.1 per cent. The most significant decrease was in distribution.
